To answer your question, a very good one, by the way, I think that most people FEAR cultural liberalism. Most of us are so brainwashed by the government and by religious beliefs that we are sometimes too scared to question the powers that be. For instance, you mentioned Christianity. I am a Christian, but I would be crazy if I did not admit that many folks will hate, put down and look down on others for not being Christians, the very thing the religion tells us NOT to do. Instead looking at things logically, and realizing that EVERYONE is NOT a Christian, and realizing that everyone has the right to their own beliefs, we tend to be judge, jury and executioner. These are the conservative, right wing agenda Christians I am talking about. The ones who in one breath lodge complaints against homosexual marriages, but in the next breath have to defend themselves after having sex with teenage boys. So to answer your question, folks fear liberalism because in it's purest sense, it means allowing people to be who they really are.

You've given the "truth" as you know it and now I will give the "truth" as I know it. This post is not meant to be disrespectful.
It isn't a matter of fearing liberalism. It is a matter of knowing in the long run which is in the best interest of society as a whole.
It seems to me like liberals look at the issues facing our world and believe that in the end everything will "just work out". As a conservative, I hope that everything will just work out but I realize that we all may have to make hard choices and make plans in case it doesn't.
Liberals (in my opinion) look at the world through rose colored glasses. Not to say that they believe everything is wonderful, but they seem to have the impression that everything is fixable and sometimes it just isn't, not in the way you hope for. With a Liberal it seems that if a problem takes three steps to to fix they either don't look at step 1 but hope to immediately advance to step 3 forgetting that moving through step 2 builds a solid foundation or they focus on step 3 and don't realize that it is going to take step 1 and 2 to get there.
Liberals are idealists. Conservatives are realists. Liberals have no desire to be realists and Conservatives know that being an idealist won't pay the bills or put food on the table..
Incidently, as a Conservative I have never argued that government should support Christianity. Actually, I refuse to argue. Liberals love to argue. I do believe that Christianity has a place in our society. Just as most other religions do. It seems to me that Liberals would like to wipe Christianity out. Probably because a Christian dedicates their life to a certain level of morality and that level of morality goes directly against the way a high percentage of Liberals feel they should be free to live their lives.
So no, I don't agree with your synopsis. Mainly because you are trying to paint a positive picture where the Liberals are concerned and a negative picture where the Conservatives are concerned.
PS... I was once a Liberal... and then I grew up.

I strongly believe that in all reasonable things measure is the answer.
Letting people do whatever they want with no restriction like many people think it should be will bring anarchy.
On the other hand, you cannot control feelings or behaviors the way the conservatives want it to be done.
Since we are liberals or conservatives depending on the situation(the most intelligent at least), our modern societies need a balance between tradition to keep our roots and an open mind to accept what must absolutely evolve.
PS: to all those who swear by tradition only, put your car aside and start walking since this is the first mean of transportation, wear only furs and not these $5000 suits...

To me it's not as much a question of culture, but of the struggle between what a person should do in certain situations, such as punishing a criminal. There is a political and thinking spectrum between the left and right. On the left are the liberals, on the right are the conservatives. I believe most people fall close to the middle, yet based on whatever is going on in our lives, we may identify with one side or the other. There seems to be a lot of extreme rights or leftists these days, but I don't believe it is quite the way it seems. In my own mind, I sway from one day to the next. If I had to pinpoint myself, I'd say slightly right of center, but not much.

Your premises are incorrect and flawed.
So your conclusion will be false.
You are too kind to liberals who are full of hate, and are Goose Steppers.
