Olympe de Gouges,

French revolutionary woman who wrote The Declaration of the Rights of Woman in 1791. She mimicked the language of the Declaration of the Rights of Man to call for full political equality for women, and drafted articles addressing women's gender specific struggles to secure property and inheritance rights and the right of a mother to legitemate her child regardless of marital status. She was tried as a royalist and guillotined on Nov. 3, 1793.

Her document led to the first women's rights movements in France and eventually led to women receiving full property rights, and her document also served as the basis for all women's rights movements the world over.

One could say she is the mother of the modern feminist movement and the proprieter of women's rights. All the rights women have today are directly linked to the work of Olympe de Gouges.
