I need to be at work on Monday and Tuesday and that is the expected delivery date for my christmas packages

Is it true that USPS will leave your package outside if you are not home regardless of the risk of theft, rain damage, etc.?

Christmas is the one season of the year when you may receive regular parcels on a Sunday. There is no scheduled delivery, every office has to make the decision on its own, but if the local office gets swamped it can happen. I once got stuck delivering boxes of fruit on a Christmas Sunday. There was so much I had to use one of the two ton trucks.
No, its not true that parcels are left regardless of conditions. Although there is a new endorsement available to mailers allowing the Letter Carrier to "Leave if no response" the safety and security of the package must still be considered.
If you have special needs call the Post Office and let your Letter Carrier know where or with whom your parcels can be left. Do you have a friendly neighbor who's a stay at home mom?

In NYC + LA Amazon now has USPS delivering on Sundays. More cities to be added later.

usps doesn't do sunday deliveries.

If they belive that the package is too big to be left, or that it would be stolen, and you are not home, they will leave you a bright colored card and it will tell you to go to the post office to pick up your package.
