First you need your chimney swept, and inspected. Next you need to make sure that you are burning seasoned firewood, if you are buring green wood (wood that is still wet) it is forming creosote in your chimney. Also do not burn pine or cedar, the tar from that wood coats your chimney. Until you have it swept, do not burn a fire in there cause it could cause a fire.

That sounds like you have a dangerous build up of creosote.Your chimney is not drafting correctly, and you will have a fire. Close it down and don't use it until it has been cleaned and inspected. Chimneys should be cleaned on yrly basis, this is the reason for so many house fires and deaths due to fire during the winter months.Contact a reputable Chimney Sweep company.

That is creosote build up inside the chimney. It is a fire hazard. It also means the chimney liner has failed.

This is so dangerous, I recommend that you immediately stop suing the stove. Have the inside of the chimney cleaned and inspected by a professional.
