Because President Bush says so...I saw a bumper sticker the other day that says "Be nice to America or we'll bring Democracy to your country too."

Democracy is a western value which can't be imposed on other non-Western countries. Let people choose. There was a debate between Kim Dae Jung (a democratic dissenter and a former President of South Korea) and Lee Kwan Yew (former Singapore's PM) about whether democracy will work in Asia or not, which I find very interesting. I personally believe in democracy but the way it's being projected by western countries now is just very counter-productive. People just hate being told what to do. So the best thing to do is to provide them info, and let them choose the way they'll rule their countries.

It's a good question! I think democracy SHALL be established with the people inside the country. So other countries don't have responsible of this. We can see the world now!! We have really stupid world! everywhere there is war and all of them say that we are doing war for democracy!! One of the greatest guy say that your Governor will be like yourself! It's mean if the people inside the countries are good the Governor will be good.
For me, It's completely depend on the people inside. The other Islamic rolls say" the human is on developing". So everything will be well.

If it's going to be successful, only through the free choice of the people - it can't be imposed from outside. And you need a number of pre-existing factors: for example, a non-corrupt government and quasi-governmental entities; a banking system that works and can be trusted; the basics of an economy that can work and a good intrastructure; a variety of free media; a sense of national identity that isn't mediated through fundamentalism of any kind; neighbours that don't feel frightened by it; and the capacity for the elected government to make it clear to the citizens that this is a good and free choice.

Plus lots and lots of time. Look how long it's taken for most of the world's established democracies to work.

That's stupid! how can you possibly enforce democracy?

Democracy is of the , for the and by the ppl OF THE COUNTRY CONCERNED. OUTSIDERS CAN NOT CREATE A CREDIBLE DEMOCRATIC FRAMEWORK. ( Sorry for yelling ;-( )

Unless citizens themselves strive for it, and unite for it, true democracy can't be achieved.

If you think that some foreign power will come and save a country selflessly. you are living in a fools paradise. All they'll do is install a weak puppet regime.

And seriously, is democracy that good? Iran is a democratic country and everyone is trying to impose sanctions on them.

a better question is, should it be!! If we take into account adjusted real income - what you can do with the money you have after taxes - medical care, and education opportunities, according to the U.N. Human Inces Report, we are 7th behind 6 constitutional monarchies. Our form of democracy is only as good as it's leaders and when we have a president with only a 30% approval among Americans we should not pass that on to other countries as well.

lead by example. give clear facts and evidence that democracy works. don't force it on a country or culture that has not requested it. Did it ever occur to you that democracy may not work for everyone? It's a lot like Christians spreading their beliefs to others without regard for the others belief system. It won't work.
