What is the point of a sweet sixteen, what do you gain

They say you're dirty if you don't have a sweet sixteen. You must not have had your fist kiss in order to have a sweet16... you are considered pure. But after that what next? Oh and also... what arre they trying to say that kissing is dirty

I think it has something to do with sixteen as biologically the age where females most particularly are just about physically showing the telltale signs of the beauty that waits until it blooms fully. When one is sixteen, she is at the very least more conscious of how she interacts socially thus she is more prone to self-censorship which explains why shy smiles coyly and blushes at the slightest touch.

i am not sure why 16 is such a magic number. i missed my daughter's 16th b-day (she is 29 now) and she still reminds me i missed her sweet 16. go figure. by the way, i have tried and tried to make it up in the years since.
