What does it mean when there are bubbles on the trans dipstick? it is an automatic.

The fluid is relatively new (5000 miles) and looks fine. smells "great" also.=)

Does the fluid look black instead or Red or smell really burnt? Also check if there is any small metal shavings on your dipstick almost like tiny glitter. This will indicate that something internally in your transmission has either shelled out or is getting wore out. As far as the bubbles go I wouldn't really worry about it. If you just added trans fluid after changing your filter out or something this is normal. Drive it and check it again. If bubbles are still present then it could be a number of things like something in your valve body, pump going bad, bad seal thus causing blow-by, bad converter, etc. It's just one of those things that if it is still operating alright don't worry about it because I am sure you know that transmission repairs can put a big dent in your wallet....

could be too much or too little fluid, most likely too much. check the level when the fluid is hot after about an hour of driving. that's what my repair book says.
