come on, seriously. this isn't an adult site. i bet more than half of the people on here are under age. what's the point of being so 'strict' with the questions we ask when all these images are in your face. images probably have a larger impact than a couple of swear words anyway.
whats the deal

for the record i've seen more than just clothed close-ups. quite graphical actually, and nothing i'd like to see.
and as you say - YA is like a chatroom... then why are they so strict with the written content? they're not consistant and it should be taken care of.

Well sometimes it's hard to define what a pornographioc avator is. It's easier to pick up on an aggresive answer.
by the way, would you consider my avator pornographic?

"Technically" none of the avatars I've seen are pornographic, in the sense of graphic sexual activity. There are more than a few that have scantily-clad women and close-ups of (clothed) women's breasts, but nothing that I've seen would be considered 'R' rated; most of it is PG-13 if not a Yahoo!-generated avatar.
Keep in mind that Yahoo! Answers is kind of like a chat room, in that what you see may not be who you're actually talking to. Some of the avatars you see are actually of that person, but the odds of all or most of them...?
Plus, some people do it just for attention (or to get a rise out of you, which is what happened to you).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending them, it's just that I'VE never seen anything more graphic than what I described above. If there are more graphic avatars than that, I haven't seen them. I'm not saying they're not out there, just that I haven't seen them.

They eventually catch the offensive pictures. Can you imagine an easy way to police millions?

I think it has to do with being reported. My question got deleted for chatting but it wasn't chatting, I think somebody reported me.

Thank you, I was wondering the same thing. I guess they don't look at avatars.
