Henry VIII (28 June 1491–28 January 1547) was King of England and Lord of Ireland, later King of Ireland, from 22 April 1509 until his death. He was the second monarch of the Tudor dynasty, succeeding his father, Henry VII. Henry VIII is famous for having been married six times to have a son, "divorcing" two by execution, and ultimately breaking with Rome. He wielded perhaps the most untrammelled power of any English monarch, and brought about the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and the union of England and Wales.

Henry VIII, born at Greenwich on 28 June in 1491, second son of Henry VII. He became heir to the throne on the death of his elder brother, Prince Arthur, in 1502 and succeeded with the death of his father on the 22nd of April 1509.
He died on the 28th of January 1547, and was buried in St George's Chapel, Windsor - making his reign 37 years and 9 months long.
Edward VI, son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, was born in 1537. He ascended the throne at age nine, upon the death of his father. He was betrothed to his cousin, Mary Queen of Scots, but deteriorating English-Scot relations prohibited their marriage. The frail, Protestant boy died of consumption at age sixteen having never married.
