No Test series was played between England and Australia in 1987-88. The Test series of 5 Tests was played in 1986-87. First match was won by England, 2nd and 3rd were drawn, 4th test was won by England and 5th Test was won by Australia. England won that series 2-1. The series was decided in the 4th Test played at Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th to 28th December 1986, which England won and took the lead of 2-0.

In 1998 only one Test was played between England and Australia,
which was a bicentenary Test played at Sydney Cricket ground
29th January to 2nd February 1998, which was drawn.
