No. Stretch marks are your skin compensating for a a drastic change in its size.
For instance.. If you gain 25 lbs over the course of 2 months, you might not get stretch marks, but if you gain 25 lbs in 2 weeks, you probably will. Similarly, if you loose a good amount of weight you may also get "stretch" marks... even though you aren't technically stretching anything.
Of course anyone is susceptible to them, but there are a lot of people who are more prone to get them than others. (I.e. 2 people weighing the same amount, gaining the same amount of weight in the same amount of time, one may get stretch marks, while the other doesn't)
It has nothing to do with stress. It has to do with weight loss/gain.

I have had stretch marks my entire life. I am 22 and can first remember them from when I was 10. I have seen numerous dermatologists about it, and their single answer is that stretch marks are mostly genetic. If your mom has them, chances are you do too. While there is no cure for them, coco butter (found in many lotions at the grocery store) can help shrink them, and I've found that getting some color in my skin (i.e. tanning) helps to blend them in so they aren't bright purple against white skin. And just some words of advice, when you decide to have a baby, start using lotion with coco butter in it long before your belly starts to grow. If you already have them for no "typical" reason, you will definitely get them during a weight gain or pregnancy!

NOOOOOOO Weight Gain usually at a fast rate. They don't go away either. They reduce & are not so noticable when you loose wait, But they will come back if you gain again. Try to avoid them, and if you are a SUN worshiper stay in the shade, they leave more of a scar. The same goes for any injury of the skin, blemishes, burns, scrapes if you have them and lay in the sun you are more likley to produce more of a scare

When skin's elasticity reaches it's limit, stretch marks appear. Losing weight and pregnancy can result to stretch marks but stress... I don't think so!
