Advanatge:
1. Things get done FAST. What the king says goes.
2. Kings do no pander for votes. Elected presidents have to compramise. They owe pay back for their supporters.
3. In America we honor the office of a president--- but countries with a king honor the person. At least they used to. Kings we seen as chosen by God.
Disadvantage:
A sone of a King can be unfit to rule and lead a country to disaster. King George of England was mad. He lost USA as a colony.
King Louis 16th of france spent too much and ignored the people as he did not need their votes. they starved. they revolted. they cut off his head.

It depends on the Monarch at the time.
My country is under the British Monarchy and currently this system ( Westminster) seems to work well with plenty of checks and balances in place to ensure good governance.
The Queen herself is generally respected as head of state but she has little say in the way the country is run, this is the same for England and came about as a result of a separation between state and monarch during the English civil war in The 17th century in which Parliament removed most if the regal powers from the constitution.
Currently Elizabeth II is our Queen and she is generally well respected , however her son Charles is not , The only thing keeping Windsor viable in the eyes of most people is the acceptance and respect paid to Prince William.( vicariously through his late mother Diana)
It is felt in Australia that Charles should forfeit his right to the throne in favor of William , if he doesn't Australia is likely to pursue for Independence from the Commonwealth and become a republic.
The current advantages of the current Monarch is that she is steadfast , unswerving, not prone to petty political point scoring and is ready to make tough decisions when required. She is confident enough in her own abilities that she is able to remain strong and true to the ideals of England and the Commonwealth and she treats all her subjects with respect and equality.
The major disadvantage is Charles.( and his horse headed courtesan), they have the potential to destroy the current monarchy within the Commonwealth and at Home. Simply by being who they are.
At the end of the day the Royal house are human beings, with human frailties WHO are born into roles they MUST accept with no say .
Every one else can choose a career not so a crown regent , that is probably the greatest disadvantage.

It can be a good thing to disrespect your government when their actions warrant it. This is harder to do when you have a presidential or parliamentary system without a ceremonial head of government. The idea of reverence for the office but disliking the holder of the position can get muddled. If George W. wasn't the head of the 'first family', his approval ratings would likely be even lower than they are now.
Having a monarch removes any reverence from the real seat of power and people can call for a removal of a leader of government without as many mixed emotions.
Other than that, a ceremonial head of government can be a source of stability and confidence in times of crisis. In Spain, in the early 80's, a military coup was effectively diffused by the actions of King Juan Carlos, who had limited power, but a lot of influence.
I believe a similar situation occured in Thailand last year.
In Canada, our governor-general can display to the world a symbol of our beliefs. She is an immigrant, speaks 5 languages, is of course female and a minority. A much nicer reflection of our country than a middle-aged, pudgy white man.
Peace

Its a good way to concentrate power and authority as long as the subject are in agreement. It makes it easy to determine a succession.

Mel Brooks said, "It's good to be king". If he says it, then it must be.
