From what I know, these cultures are community centered and surely cannot tolerate a thief or rapist in their midst. I'm interested in how they deal with those who cannot live within accepted bounds.

I've been chastised so I will elaborate. I was referring to, for example, the Indians of the Amazon Basin, the culture studied by Mead, indigenous people untainted by the 'technological' world. Generally, social groups living close to the land, some contact with other groups but primarily isolated and living by a strict system that serves the group as whole.
