russia had an autocratic government before the revolution
the people were starving and the czar was throwing lavish parties celebrating 300 years of Romanov rule
the czar, Nicholas II, was weak, and his wife, Alexandra, wasn't even Russian
Nicholas left Alexandra in charge of the country and the people hated that becuase they hated her...she didn't even speak the Russian language
Gregory Rasputin got a lot of undue political influence because of his position in the palace...Alexandra thought that he healed Alexis, the hemophilic son, and liked Rasputin a lot, but he was a very immoral peasant who just pretended to be a holy man around the czar and Alexandra
