The distance from Coimbatore to Ooty is 89 Kms. Since your arrival is at night I would suggest you to stay the overnight in Coimbatore and leave next morning for Ooty. I am not sure about the exact taxi fare. Train service also available, it would be more comfortable.

Cab to Ooty will cost around Rs.1200. I had bargained to Rs.900/- There are buses to Ooty available from Gandhipuram. You will find frequent buses from Nanjappa Road near Gandhipuram Bus Stand. Avoid hiring rickshaws as they charge unresonably. Call taxis are better option. For Gandhipuram, they would charge approx Rs. 100/- from Airport.
However 10 p.m. is bit late to catch a bus. Besides, planes are sometimes delayed. So it is good to stay overnight in hotels. There are many economical hotels in Coimbatore. Hotel TamilNadu with is a good choice because it is just opposite to the bus stand.
