In California, we have something called a "Certified Specialist in Criminal Law" and others for civil law like "Certified Specialist in Family Law." Lawyers can only sit for these tests after they have gained significant experience and received positive peer recognition.
I think in general though, a criminal lawyer is either called a Prosecutor or Defense Attorney (depending on which side he or she is on) and the civil lawyers are known more by their specialities (Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Administrative, etc.) than by a broad "civil law" title.
