People seem to place a stigma and lesser value of importance to an ailment that can't literally be seen as the ones you mentioned above than if a person was in a wheelchair, missing limb, speech impediment, ' lazy ' eye, etc. Mental illness can't be seen as other ' illness's ' and affects the soul and heart more which means others have to deal with emotions more...which is a touchy, awkward, uncomfortable subject for many...so, in part a stigma of ' just stop being 'sad' etc. What can't be seen is often misunderstood.

Hi! I strongly think there may be nonetheless a bad stigma related to intellectual ailment'. Maybe not up to years beyond. But society, individuals, even Drs, hospitals, and so forth customarily simply haven't any proposal what intellectual well being disorders are all approximately. I've misplaced the final nine+ yrs of my lifestyles to more than a few emotional/intellectual ailment'. Agoraphobia, social anxiousness, and so forth. Similar to AIDS, individuals are afraid, don't seem to be knowledgeable or do not think within the suggestion of intellectual well being disorders. I think the intellectual well being group nonetheless has some distance to head to collapse boundaries for individuals discomfort from those ailment'. I wager what frustrates me probably the most is the misdiagnosing and labeling Drs deliver sufferers. They make it look as when you have a dying sentence. Research, appear into meds your Dr would possibly prescribe, speak on your pharmacist.I'm now not joking while I say your pharmacist can also be your high-quality buddy and advise. They are SO a lot more "up" at the meds, facet results, what the med is for precisely. I want you the high-quality!

Have you noticed that 95% of all Oscar winners for Best Actor or Best Actress played characters that were mentally ill? Think about it. Sally Field. Cher. Nicole Kidman. Dustin Hoffman. Morgan Freeman. Geoffrey Rush. Jack Nicholsen. Russell Crowe. Denzel Washington. Jessica Lange. Liz Taylor. Meryl Streep. Halle Berry....yet in real life we treat those with mental illnesses with contempt? Go figure.

It's really rewarding to PRETEND to be MENTAL in a FILM, but if you're MENTAL in REAL LIFE, YOU'RE INVISIBLE!!!!

After playing Virginia Woolf and winning an Oscar, Nicole Kidman's earning capacity quadrupled overnight. All thanks to playing a psychotic, manically-depressed author!

There are still a lot of sterotypes floating around about the mentally ill. Yes, it's unfair but many people don't fully understand the disorder and they immediately think the worst.

You know, this is actually an easy answer. People are people no matter how they are wired. I don't think there is as much prejudice against anyone with a mental illness anymore... the only people who have a problem with something someone cannot control are shallow narrow minded people.

i wish i knew that answer because it really irks me when it does occur. it is just wrong and unfair to do that, its hard enough having to live with a disorder like any of the ones you listed above let alone admit to it to another human being who you are scared will think less of you when you do.
