It depends on your weight before pregnancy. If you were already more than 15 lbs overweight before you should only gain about 15 lbs for the whole pregnancy. If you were a normal weight before than up to 30 lbs is acceptable and you are right on track. I am on my third pregnancy and due any day now. In my experience though you always gain a little more than you should with the first one. The biggest concern with weight gain is gestational diabetes, try to eat 6 small meals a day, never go more than 4 hours with out eating. Big no no is cutting carbs during pregnancy, 25-30 for a snack and 50-60 for a meal. Sounds like alot I know but my mom is a diabetic educator and following these simple things has kept my weight down during pregancy the last 2 times and no diabetes either. I have only gained 15 bls with this one and the last baby I weighed less after birth than when i got pregnant. Good Luck!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain. As long as you are eating healthy and taking good care of yourself and your little one, don't stress over a few pounds. I think at 19 weeks, I had gained about that much. During my entire pregnancy, I only put on 29 pounds and within about a week, I was back into my prepregnancy jeans and down to my prepregnancy weight. (I also breast feed which helps a lot with the weight)...not to mention my baby was 8lbs. 7 oz. and the placenta was HUGE!! Just keep on a healthy diet ok. You're doing GREAT :)

At least you can gain weight...I am 36 weeks and 5 days along now....And from 13 weeks until about 17 weeks...I got yelled at by the health dept (where I was getting prenatal care before my insurance was in affect)...for not gaining any weight and losing almost 10 lbs (due to morning sickness)....then I got my insurance and I found a doctor...that is the best!!! But, I have not gained any weight for the past month...and I've kinda been getting yelled at for it...I am the type who just cannot gain weight...But, on the plus side...from me not gaining weight...I am measuring smaller than 36 weeks...so I get to get more sonograms...My 4th sono is schedules for the 21st...So...don't worry about the weight...

The usual weight gain is 10-14 kgs some women go over that, just don't go to overboard try to stay below or around 14 kilos and you will be fine

No I do not think that 12 pounds at almost 5 months is too much weight. It sounds like you're doing great. You should be very proud of yourself.

No, that is fine.

But the real question is, are you eating a nutritious diet? That is more important than the pounds. If you are gaining weight from eating lots of sweets, then no good.
