I have had two pregnancy scans so far. One at 9 weeks because of abdominal pain and another routine dating scan at 11 weeks. Both have given different dates for the pregnancy. The second scan said I was a week further pregnant than what the first scan showed. I am very confused because I thought scans this early were supposed to be very accurate and that cant be so if one gives a due date of 18th June and the other gives a date of 11th June. Please help....thanks all.

Basically, nothing you or the doctors calculate is going to give you a real due date. With my last daughter, I had 5 ultrasounds and 6 due dates ... I also had the one that was calculated from my last period. And by the way, she wasn't born on ANY of those dates. *laughs*

See, they go by how big the baby is and how much fluid is there and all of that. But what if your baby is genetically small? Well, then they'll be smaller than an "average" size baby. And if she's gonna be 10 pounds when she's born, then they'll probably tell you that you're a few weeks further along than you think.

Their incorrect calculations can actually mess you up pretty good. Imagine hearing the doctor say "and you conceived on such and such a date" and then hearing your husband say "I was gone that week" Been there, done that ... and yes, she's his. *smiles*

If you use when your last period was (this doesnt help if you are very irregular) or when you think you may have conceived along with both the ultrasound dates. You should be able to work out a due date. Ultrasounds are not 100% accurate and you could deliver between 38 and 42 weeks and that would be normal. I have had 6 ultrasounds the first 5 where all very much the same. I had my 6th at 30 weeks to check babies growth as I had been ill, it said I was 2 weeks further, this is just cause the baby is big and they work on an average. Congrats on being pregnant

The earlier the ultrasound is given in pregnancy the more acurate the dating is. So your 9 week scan would be a more reliable due date

In my experience the later the ultrasound in the first trimester, the more accurate. The difference in yours is only a week and the scans aren't really going to be absolutely on the dot correct anyway. Baby will make it's debut when he/she is good and ready.

If I were you I would go with the later date, just so you don't stress about it when it gets close. They were wrong by almost 3 weeks on my daughter and when you think you are 3 weeks past your due date, it is not a happy time.

Congratulations and good luck!

the san date at this stage really doesnt matter. in fact my doctor told me just rely on the date calculated based on my last periods. my date was 30th october,in my 1st and 2nd scans it were lile 5th and 8th of november. however my last scanning in th 7th month said 20th october, but i had a c section on 14th ocotber due to fetal distress. towards the end of pregnancy the doctor might be able to tell whether u r nearing delivery.
