Just eat a normal healthy diet and avoid alcohol and cigarettes and drugs unless the doctor prescribes them. They say milk is important, but I hate milk and did not drink it and I was fine. The doctors put you on pregnancy vitamins and I think they give you everything you need. I was the healthiest I have ever been when I was pregnant. My hair and skin was glowing and my usually brittle fingernails were hard as stone. And I ate whatever I wanted, but I took the vitamins. Also, if you have cravings, indulge them. It probably means your body needs something and craves the food that will give it to you. I craved greens (like turnip and mustard), so much that I would eat them cold out of the can. I know, yuck. But, before I delivered, the doctor found out I was low on potassium and I had to take liquid potassium (the nastiest substance on the face of the earth). Since the greens have a lot of potassium, that is why I was craving them. So go with your cravings and good luck.

Stick to fresh foods, lots of veggies, salads and fruits. Soft cheese's should be avoided and of course alcohol! Just eat a well balanced diet, and all will be fine! You will find as time goes by, your body will crave certain things ... indulge, as it's nature's way of telling you what you are needing! Your midwife will see you on a regular basis, and as long as baby is developing well, you should have not real worries! I have heard some people say, that high allergy foods should be avoided, but there is no actual proof that this is true. Remember, baby takes the nutrients first, you basically get left with the extra! So just make sure you eat plenty of fresh foods, and you will be fine! The body is quite amazing really, as priority now will be baby ... if anything you, yourself will lack certain nutrients, thats why you need to have a good intake of fresh foods and get plenty of rest! Goodluck with your pregnancy!

A balanced diet is far more important than eating any one food. Fruit and vegetables should be a priority however.
I disagree with milk being the best thing - many people have problems digesting milk for some reason and even if you don't have a problem, drinking large amounts could pass an intolerance onto your unborn baby. Milk is designed to help baby cows grow, not baby humans. You should make sure you get plenty of protein to help your baby grow, however.

In my nutrition class I was told not to eat aged cheese. I've forgotten why exactly, but very important to stay away from. So stay away from any aged cheese. No alcohol any time during pregnancy. As your baby will develop fetal alcohol symptoms and develop learning problems early in life that may not show up until a later age. Such as ADD & ADHD which are symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome. Other wise known as brain damage! If you drink in access your babies face will look like "Down Syndrome" with brain development damage. Folic Acid is extremely important for the placenta in the first trimester or first 3 months.
Best to ask your G.Y.N. for the best foods to eat and how much folic acid to take everyday. Please see a doctor on a regular bases during your entire pregnancy. Absolutly no drugs unless okayed by your doctor and tobacco can also cause your unborn baby brain development problems. Even second hand smoke stay away from. After baby is born and you are nursing your baby, your food, drug and smoking is very important!!!!!!!!! Hope I've helped you. There are prenatal vitamins on the market, also ask your doctor which is best. New study just out has confirmed that no alcohol intake is safe while pregnant. Just learned from my Professor Kathy Page PH.D. who is a graduate from stanford and specializes in "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome".

Folic acid is a must- dark green leafy vegetalbes- it helps prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord such as neural tube defects (NTDs), when taken very early in pregnancy.
Avoid foods like
Soft white cheeses eg. Ricotta, brie, camembert, blue vein and fetta,
Pate
Unpasturised dairy products
Cold meats
Dried/fermented sausages
Raw seafoods eg. Oysters, sashimi
Smoked seafood (canned is okay)
Pre packed and prepared salads
Soft serve ice-cream
these all increase the risk of bacteria called Listeria, which can be harmful to ur baby in the early stages of pregnancy

convinced, in spite of the undeniable fact that it truly isn't any longer recommended to devour more beneficial than 6oz per week by means of danger of mercury publicity even with a collection of well being advocates those days wanting to point ingesting more beneficial than 6oz. That idea develop into struck down by technique of the FDA and EPA, which i imagine is smart. And it truly isn't any wonder that concept develop into sponsored by technique of the fish market. Mercury isn't the in effortless words toxin in fish. I hear (farmed) fish has alot of what's pronounced as dioxins. stay faraway from shark, tuna, and swordfish-those are a listed few that are time-honored to have the most mercury ranges. At supermarkets mutually with Bel Air's or Raley's, they in many cases have a caution placard or brochure displayed at their seafood area. the in effortless words income of ingesting fish at the same time as pregnant is to get the Omega 3 fatty acids, for the toddler's mind progression. yet Omega 3 can be modern in shelled nuts and vegetables, in many cases no longer contained in the quantity that fish includes. there is supplementations for Omega 3 also, yet i do not hear alot of human beings making use of those. after all, the FDA doesn't regulate supplementations, and that i heard vaguely the Omega 3 supplementations by-product from fish oil includes mercury besides. devour fish in small quantities or moderation, in spite of the undeniable fact that the necessary foodstuff of fish can be received by skill of different meals besides.

A good healthy balanced diet, is a must.
You should also be on pregnancy vitamins, making sure they have the right amounts of folic acid in them (this helps prevent birth defects), foods high in calcium, and iron are also important.
Avoid soft cheeses, raw meats, deli meats, raw eggs, raw seafood (like oysters) cold pre made seafood salads, any meats that have been in your fridge for a couple of days (unless you thoroughly reheat them before eating them) Fish containing accumulated levels of mercury in their fatty tissues such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tile fish. Also people have said to avoid hot dogs, sausages and processed foods, but as long as these are well cooked and the preservatives dont upset your tummy then feel free to eat them.
There is nothing wrong with spicy foods as long as you dont suffer from heart burn.
Hope this helps

Milk is the 100% most important thing for a pregnant woman or a new mom - why do you think a lot of new mom programs give out free milk coupons??
New moms, especially when breastfeeding, need a more nutritious diet, slightly more calories than usual, and a lot of protein as well.
If breastfeeding, stay away from cigarettes, alcohol, spicy foods, strong flavored foods [rhubarb is a big one!!!] and caffeine . A lot of sugar will burn you out, and a lot of fat won't help lose the baby weight you have gained!
Good luck.

The most important food for a pregnant woman is milk. Milk is a very complete and comprehensive food. She should take soupe chicken. This food should be complemented by fruit which could be easily digested, such as banas, grape and strawberry. The things which she should not eat is very oily food, such as fried chicks and mutton but not not fish. She should not eat achhaar of mangoe. (and chuntney). I mean to say sour things such as Tomato Sauce etc. etc.
In nut shell she should avoid such food which is not easily digestable and take such items which can be easily digested so that there should no constipation and no blood pressure rise. Good Luck.

Besides all the nutritious stuff out there, be sure you wash and cook your vegetables right. Don't eat foods with preservatives, drink low fat milk with folic acid because it helps with the development of the baby's brain. Avoid alcohol as it may cause mental retardation, sudden infant death syndrome and low birth weight. Avoid smoking and second-hand smoke, especially during the first trimester.
