They probably didn't since they were too busy doing their job.

Women's suffrage didn't start until much later, when women's lives were made much easier and they didn't have as much to do around the house, thanks to their husbands working hard and providing modern conveniences for them.

I have nothing against women's suffrage, and think every woman should have the right to vote, and do anything else they want as long as it doesn't' interfere with her job of keeping the house clean and having a home cooked meal on the table at dinner time.

We can look back thru history and realize that the early women weren't allowed to do nothing except work on the farm and have babies. The Husbands were the boss and what he said went. I think that the women who started the suffrage realized that women should have a voice in things to, that they had a brain the same as the men.

They were a kind of a role-model. They not only traveled distances with their families to conquer new land and when settling they toiled the fields, husbanded the animals, worked hard and on top of it all had children, took care of them, fed the family. Actually the truth behind these heroic stories is a bitter one for women. They did everything and still were not independent. They had to rely on their husbands for money and status. I doubt if they could sign contracts or have a bank account. Anyway the suffragists thought that women need to have a say in politics too, vote and be voted for as this give further civil rights. They were right of course.

Post Civil war, they showed the men that they could work side by side with them and that they were 'can do' women. Worked their farms, factories by themselves. It took another 70 years I believe before women won the right to vote.
