The Christmas lights symbolize the light of the world Jesus coming to earth and the bright star that shone above Him.
For Easter it's the Easter Lily as a sign of rebirth or being resurrected. As the Easter Lily is a bulb plant and it dies each year and comes back to life around Easter each year. The Easter Lily is a sign of faith and strength.
They are two different holidays with two different meanings.

It's rumored that the first person to think of lighting up a tree was Martin Luther (the protestant, not Martin Luther King Jr.). Supposedly after admiring the stars while walking home one night, he got the idea to put candles on the tree to immitate the twinkling stars.
Candles on trees are dangerous of course. When electricity was harnessed and the lightbulb came into being, it wasn't long before someone got the idea to replace candles with lights. In fact it used to be you had to rent the light set from the electric company and assemble the circuit yourself! It was common in many cultures to decorate houses during winter holidays as a throwback to the pagan day and it seems lighting on houses just naturally followed lights on trees.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we see easter lights thanks to good old capitolism.

Did you see the film "the passion" That is sort of the beginning of Easter. So it is a very different type of celebrating we do. Not the way we celebrate at Christmas. Which was a birth.

At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Also, it is end of the year, a time to bring all you have achieved from the beginning of the year to-gether. A time to give thanks to the Almighty God for spearing your life. That is why many of us decorate our houses with light. Easter, was when HE was crucified and buried on the 3rd day HE resurrected. Also, it is like we are still at the beginning of the Year, still thinking about HIS painful death on the Cross.

perhaps we should at Easter. My neighbor has a huge lit cross in her yard for Easter. I suppose the lights for Christmas started because of the star of Bethlehem.
