D is passing in some cases. If it is for your major, you may need to get a C or above. That was the case when I was a Bio major. Check with your advisor/counselor.

It's the lowest passing grade at the college I attend. I got a 65 or a D+ in Sociology. I deserved far worse though. The tests were very long and comprehensive and I didn't study hard enough because I had a bad work ethic. I deserved the grade I got.

A grade of D is technically passing, but will have a detrimental impact on your grade point average. If this class is in your major, then you will have to retake it.

There are a few cases where a "D for diploma" is satisfactory, usually for General Requirements courses: For example, a history major who gets a D in a math class, or if you had done well in college and can afford to blow off on your last semester before graduation (but that will haunt you when you apply for graduate school, as was my case). Of couse you can't do this too often, as too many D's can cause your overall GPA to drop below minimum.

If you are at a community college, it is unlikely that a D will transfer to a university.

Is A D Passing

A D is technically a pass, because you will still get credit for the course. It doesn't look great on your transcript, but it counts towards your degree.

If you need to take a course where that one is a pre-requisite, however, you won't be able to do it unless you have a C-. So if it's a pre-requisite, definitely redo the course. If it's not a pre-requisite, just redo it if you want your transcript to look better (you need to make sure that you are able to do better the second time, though).

It depends, if your major requires a C or better than yes, but if it doesn't then don't. But always look at your GPA it can't be below a 2.0 But talk to an advisor at your school, that's what they're there for. I got a D in my COMP & RHET 1302 (ENGL) class last spring and I just found out I have to re-take it so re-take it.

A D is passing but barely. If you take the class again and get a higher grade, it will help your grade point average. It happened to me when I took algebra. I got a D. I took it over and got a B which helped my grade point average.

It might actually depend on your college, or the professor. Where I went a 'D' was not considered passing (meaning I did not receive credit for that class) Be very careful to not let it slide, because even though you might be getting credit, you can be on academic probation because of it.
