because the English language is confusing. lot's of things don't make sense, but we say them anyway.

and if you have a pair of dice and you subtract one why isn't it a douse? furthermore if you live in the middle east or utah and you have more than one spouse wouldn't that be a spice? and what about rice? is there even a singular form for that one? cuz I've never heard of anyone having a rouse as a snack.
