The one method above worth trying is finding out the name of where the person trains/ studies at, etc. You can go there and talk to the instructor and try and get validation of his art, ranking, etc.

Most rankings come from a governing association. You can ask to see if the person has certificates that state an awarded rank, or ask the person or instructor what association his school is accredited under and go to that body and inquire.

If you look in the phone book or website of the school, they typically will list what governing association they practice under as well.

WELL THE BEST WAY IS TO JUST ASK, BUT IF THEY RAE TELLING YOU THEN TAHT WON'T WORK.

IF THE PERSON IS AN UNDER RANKING BELT, SUCH AS BROWN BELT AND BELOW, THEN YOU CAN FEEL FREE TO ASK, BUT IF THE PERSON IS A BLACK BELT, THEN IT'S NEVER A GOOD IDEA TO ASK ABOUT THEIR RANK. IT'S IS LOOKED UPON AS A SIGN OF DISREPECT.

I HAVE TO WONDER IF SOMEONE IS EITHER IN MARTIAL ARTS AT ALL, OR TAKING THEIR MARTIAL ARTS SERIOUSLY, BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT FORTH COMING WITH IFORMATION THAT TYE EVEN STUDY MARTIAL ARTS, MUCH LESS DIVULGE THEIR RANK.

ASK THIS PERSON FI THERE IS A WEBSITE FOR HIS OR HER CLASS. IF THE PERSON IS A BLACK BELT, AND IS TEACHING THE CLASS, IT MIGHT BE ON THE WEBSITE, ALONG WITH PHOTOS OF THEM.

GOOD LUCK.

I was going to say punch them in the face, and pray, but I guess you could ask where they learned at, and ask their trainer, or find out some of the moves through the web, and ask them to show you how they are done. The way they act should say something.
