One thing that helps is to know you are not alone. Many people feel this way. As you get older, you'll grow and feel more comfortable with who you are and as the confidence grows, you'll be more comfortable around people. The more you meet people, the easier it will get. Humans are naturally social creatures.

Hey man, bad intro, but we share the same problem. Talking to someone new never seems to get easier, does it? People tell you to relax, but nobody can relax just because they are told to, and then there's other people who tell you that as you grow older, you'll automatically become more socialiable. Lies! This problem can be a real bad habit. The longer you stay in this habit, the harder it will be for you to change. I don't mean to put you down, but you need to get out of your little hole. Theres several things you need to change. 1) go to more parties, and make sure you talk with random strangers. It doesn't matter what you say or how the convo turn out, but just have a good time. 2) Often times, when you get nervous in front of people, it feels like there's a thousand things going inside of your mind doesn't it? Thats not a bad thing, because it means there's a 1000 different things you can talk about, but the problem is that those things aren't coming out of your mouth for various reasons. But regardless of your reasons or excuses for not saying it, you simply have to say it. Say what you have in mind in a constructive way. Saying things in a constructive manner takes practice, and is really hard to master. Thats why so many people say stupid things.

To tell you the truth, i have made a bunch of friends with people that are shy. The only REAL remedy for your problem is to just force yourself to be around them. Eventually you will get used to being around people. Forcing yourself to be around people will also help you "practice" your social skills and help you learn how to act around people when you are unsure of yourself.
