I wanna go out of state for college, but I'm scared! I just graduated from highschool this year and I started attending the local college. But I feel like I'm not experiencing the whole college thing. So I'm considering going out of state. But I know I'll be really homesick. Any advice?? Should I do it?? Is it a good experience??

Go I went away for college you will feel more independent and you have more confidence because you have to rely on yourself and that will make you responsible, you will grow. I went out of state and it change my view on life. I graduated and now I'm getting my masters. I met other people who wanted to pursue the same thing like getting degree and going to further their education, while my friends who stayed in state eventually quit because they saw the same people and associated with the same people that were immature in High school. Its your time to spread your wings. If you don't do it now people wont expect you to do it and you will regret it.Yes you will be homesick that's common and if you don't like being out of state after a year go to a school in-state but definitely try out of state first.

You don't necessarily have to go that far away (depending on the size of your state) to get the "real" college experience, but I would agree that you aren't getting it. I come from a really small town, and about three-quarters of my graduating class went to the same two local colleges. I went to a university about two hours away, and, as a result, lost contact with pretty much everyone.

When I look at my high school friends today, they are still in the same old social circles, dating/marrying the same people, living in the same area. And they never got to experience anything else. Sometimes I regret not being part of that world anymore, but I still wouldn't trade that for the life I have now.

The purpose of education to give you new insight on the world. If you feel you aren't getting that where you are, I'd definitely consider transferring if its finacially feasible. Yes, you'll have to break a lot of ties in the process, but if you're willing to do that you'd be opening yourself up to a bunch of new ones.

I say go for it. However, if you feel you are going to be homesick just move 1 state away. College experience is a lot of fun and a lot of work. On the way you do a lot of growing up and living in what your parents call, the real world. Good luck.

Don't. Not straight out of HS. Do 2 years at your local community college. Once you're 20 you will have more maturity to be able to handle being out of state. You're already uneased with the idea, so following through may not be your best choice.

By the way, I moved to a University 1.5 hours away from my hometown, and it already felt like I was "out of state." You don't need to go to the other side of the country to already feel and be away from home.
