A few weeks ago I cracked my oil pan which resulted in major engine damage. I initially called my insurance company about the cracked oil pan and they said it would be covered under 'collision.' They then told me it wouldn't be worth paying the $500 deductible when the cost to fix it would be $300. After getting the oil pan replaced, it was discovered that there was also major engine damage resulting in the car needing a new engine. I still owe $9000 on the car and have full coverage. I can't sell it without a working engine. So, I'm wondering if my insurance will cover the cost for a new engine ($3000 or so) or not. Any help would be greatful. Thank you.

It depends on exactly why the engine has to be replaced. I first of all have to assume the vehicle was not immediately turned off...otherwise there shouldn't be any engine damage (unless whatever you hit damaged the block of the engine). Your insurance company should tell you that if you had stopped the car immediately and not driven it then the damage would not have occured...this is going to be their way of not covering it. If, however, you happened to be in a position where you would have been in imminent danger if you stopped the engine immediately and had to move the vehicle for some reason then they may cover it. You may also have an insurance company that is pleasant to deal with and they may cover the engine because it ran out of oil as the result of an accident.

The engine would be covered if the block of the engine were damaged in the accident...other than that the engine technically should not be covered because you made the choice to drive the vehicle after it was damaged.

If the engine damage is a direct result from the collision that cracked the oil pan, then they very well might cover it. They may need to talk to the mechanic or service manager of the shop doing the work, and may even need to look at the vehicle themselves.

Phone call to your insurance company is free, so your not out anything to call and ask.

Assuming the oil pan became damaged in a real coincidence and the engine harm occured after the time your oil pan became cracked you have to be coated lower than your coverage coverage. even with the very undeniable truth that engine and driveline aspects are oftentimes coated lower than assure, your case must be properly documented and understood to be a results of an coincidence that may be coated by using maximum coverage agencies. contact your coverage agent and they'd like to call the provider middle who put on your oil pan for an estimate for damages. only be honest and enable them understand what befell.

No insurance company's don't pay for engine work. You may even get more if you part out your car then selling it whole. Educate yourself on what is worth what on the car, then list them on ebay or something you may get alot more money for the car then you think.

No, they are not going to cover that much. But to be sure, ask them.
