Dont feel bad if you want to bring a lot of stuff. My daughter brought about 4 bags of things with her for her and the baby.
For a baby bag you just need things you are going to be bring the baby home in. The hospital will have diapers and wipes and formula when the baby is first born. Take advantage of that and use what they have. Bring a few different things for the baby to wear for the ride home , the weather may change while you there.
If you are going to be there for a few days, or even just over night, bring what you think you will want.
Something comfortable to ride home in. You might think about a couple pairs of pajama's for yourself. A good pair of slippers, remember the floors in the hospital are COLD.
Dont feel bad if you want to bring a few books or a things to do while the baby is sleeping or away getting checked or for the other person that is in the room with you.
My daughter and I even bought food with us. Snacks and some soda so I wouldnt have to leave to find a drink machine. The hospital feed her breakfast lunch and dinner but it was the in between times.
I even brought her an extra blanket from home to make her feel more comfortable.
Also, dont forget a camera and extra film or a few disposable ones.

I packed a bunch of stuff that I ended up NOT needing. Don't pack too much... here's what I'd advise....
* A few pairs of underwear
* A nursing bra
* A night gown and robe (if you don't want to wear the hospitals)
* Non-Slip socks or slippers
* An outfit that's COMFY to go home in (remember your belly will still be big)
* A couple outfits for baby and a blanket
*Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, lotion) and your own maxi pads if you don't want to wear the HUGE ones the hospital provides (make sure you get the over-night extra long kinds)
* A camera
* Address book with phone numbers of friends and family
* Cell phone, if you have one
I also brought a birthing ball (an excercise ball)... those things are GREAT for labor! Natural labor. You just sit on it and rotate your hips, relax, squat, etc. It opens things up and moves baby down fast. I loved it. The more you're sitting or standing upright... no matter how painful or tiring... the faster labor will be.

2-3 pairs of underwear and socks
an extra bra (i was breastfeeding/ so just in case an acident)
CHAPSTICK (your lips get very dry and chapped)
candy (like jollyranchers and lifesavers, you can't eat anything until after the baby is born, helps hold you over.)
slippers
snacks (for my fiancee, saves you some money)
soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, toothbrush, and toothpaste
comfortable clothes to come home in
camera and/or camcorder
i also brought some books to do while i was there it can get a little boring when they take the baby for things. i also a list of phone numbers that we had to call.
know for my daughter, i brought;
2 sets of different size clothes
weinzies
bibs
burpclothes
a pacifier (thats if you decide to use one)
babybook
snowsuit (she was born dec 28 and it was very cold outside)

Well I had an emergency birth do i did not bring anything so i know exactly what I needed cause I did not have it. Lotion, deoderant, panties, a night gown (nursing gown) the hospital provides but you may want your own, tooth brush/ paste, slippers. Just think about all the stuff you use in the am to get ready. Also you might wanna bring your fav brand of feminine pads, you are gonna need the heavy kind cause you bleed alot after pregnancy, the hospital provides but they are these bulky crap things that bunch up.

Here is what I brought for me:
Nursing Bra (if you're nursing)
Breast Pads (if you're nursing; disposible or washable)
2 Extra sets of clothes (Probably Maternity)
4 pairs of socks
4 pairs of undies
toothbrush and toothpaste
shampoo and conditioner
lotion
deorderant
Maternity Nightgown
Comfy Slippers
Books if you like to read
Word puzzles if you like them
Sudoku puzzles ( I love these things)
Also- I brought a notebook and wrote down most of the events that happened when I was in labor... it's special to me that my daughter will know how she was born.. exactly. It's just an idea. That way when she is pregnant with her first child I will be able to tell her her birth story.. rather than have something like my mom told me.... that she didn't remember much. :)
For Baby:
Baby's Carseat
Blankets
Diaper Bag full of-
Diapers
Wipes
socks
going-home outfit
bottles(if your using them)
binkies(if your using them)
hat(s)
I don't think I left anything out.. but I probably did. Good luck.. and congrats on your baby! Merry Christmas.. and Happy Holidays!

I just had my little girl on the 3rd of December, and was in the hospital for 5 days. The things I'm glad I brought with me were: something to keep yourself busy with (books, crosswords, music, etc) And breast pads. Maybe an extra blanket for yourself, as the hospital ones are pretty thin. Don't forget pads (not tampons) and slippers. For your baby, bring lots of wipes (you'll need them!) and diapers, and outfit to go home in, a toque for the baby. One thing I brought and I'm glad I did was, mittens for my daughter, as she nearly scratched her face to shreds!
Anyways, you'll think of more things as the time gets close.
Congratulations, and good luck:)

when i went into hospital i packed my bag with everything i could think of.... turns out i was only in there for a day and a half befor we went home, so i didn't really need any of it- my advice is pack things that make you feel comfortable! Remember there is always someone who can bring things to the hospital if you forget it!

i just got my bag ready for the hospital (i am due on xmas), here are the things they suggested i bring for labor....
hair ties, any kind of massage balls or tools your partner can use on you, CHAPSTICK, socks, you camera, magazines, and snacks for your partner.....
for after they say bring comfy clothes to stay in, something to go home in (dress as if you were 5 months pregnant), all your bathing stuff, bring your own pads (the pads they give you there i hear are horrendous), nursing pads...as for the baby bag, a going home outfit (most suggest something that you dont have to pull over thier heads, some moms freak out about that!), a blanket to wrap them in, a het (being january it will still be cold out), and your carseat!!!!

i think all the previous folks have provided good answers.
My sis and I just did this 2 months ago. One thing that would be good to bring if you have it is the baby book so you can add all the paperwork, footprints and handprints to the book right away.
I dont know what the birthing center where you are is like but we had a DVD player which was nice for the labor in the wee hours...no infomercials. :)
