I have a 10 gallon tank with a FILTER, but I know I still have to clean the tank once in awhile, so I was wondering when? Once a month, Once a week or Once a year? I think I know the answer of the question, but you never can be too sure.

If he's the only fish in the tank, you could probably get away with 20% every two weeks. Normally, in a well-stocked tank, it is advisable to do 20-40% every week.

Your best bet is to either get a nitrate tester or take a sample of your tank water to a pet store to get tested for nitrates. When your nitrates hit over 20ppm, it's time to do a water change. (You can let your nitrates get up to 40ppm, but it's really best for the health of your fish not to let it get that high.)

EDIT: Never EVER strip down the tank and completely empty it. The only reason you should have to do this is if your fish all die from some kind of disease that you can't seem to get rid of with medications.

That's going to depend on how much you feed, and how much water you have. With a single betta without in a 5 gallon tank I've gone a month without unsafe levels of nitrate. It's really going to depend on the tank. I'd advise getting a cheap nitrate test and testing once a week for at least a month. Try and keep nitrate levels well below 20 ppm. (Ideally under 10ppm) Once you get a handle on how often to do it testing once a month is fine. Just remember to avoid changing more 30%, and avoid rapid temp changes.

You clean your tank once a week. A fish no matter what kind are swimming in their own filth. I have a beta in a bowl and he gets changed every Wednesday and you feed them once every other day. They will live longer if you do, besides their little bodies bloat if they eat to much and therefor have a shorter life.

I do 12-20 % water changes every week to 2 weeks just to be safe. I would do full cleaning like 25% water changes and cleaning of the glass and gravel every 2 weeks or so, just to make it look better and safer for the fish.
