I subscribed 256 Kbps Internet Package, But I can download only with 27kbps. Why?

This is a question for me, Why my download speed is 27 kbps,while I have a package of 256 kbps.

HI,
Usually when your speed is 256k , your download spped is UP-TO 200+ from local websites. Overseas websites or those sites with large vistors will have lower.

BUT ALL HAVE TO DEPEND on the WEBSITES YOU VISIT. If they have slw server, low bandwith, large visitor and slow traffic .. - then cant be help, you speed will be gradually reduce.

No such things as delicate access or gurantee speed. All you connection is shared among everyone.

But you can increase your DL speed. but cleaning up your cookies,internet history, visit the sites at a less busy time or used external software to help.
Can try using those download accelartor from www.cnet.com . OR you can try this software [which i be using] , its call gigaget .

OK I'm sure there's nothing wrong about your subscription.. 256 kilobits per second or kbps is equal to 32 Kilo Bytes that should be display on the download window when you are downloading

8 bits = 1 Bytes
so
256 bits = 32 bytes

And you are downloading at 27 KB which is lower than 32 KB, something DSL speed are not that stable.

A little "b" stands for bits. A big "B" stands for bytes. The difference between the two is that there are 8 bits in a byte. Most ISP's advertise the services they offer with the former designation to make it appear faster than it actually is.

A 256 kbs download bandwidth in bytes is only 32 kBs so the speed you are getting is about right.

Actually you are downloading at 216Kbps. What windows is showing you is kilobytes and your ISP uses kilobits. Marketing sucks, but since 1 byte is 8 bits you multiply the value you see by 8. That download rate your ISP sells includes overhead that each info packet carries with address information to get it to the right computer. That is why you will never actually get a true 256Kbps download either.

If you can get cable internet I love mine and have been able to crank up to 608Kbps which in ISP speak is actually almost 5MBytes a sec. Not always the case but Comcast smokes where I live.

the quantity of RAM your computing device has is beside the point. the optimal velocity you will get is 32KBps. Your velocity would selection from everywhere between 20 to 32 KBps (35 at circumstances)according to how and from the place you're downloading

That 256 kbps(Kilo bits per second) is what you have subscripbed.

Download transfer rate is 27kb/s(kilo bytes/second)

8Bit = 1 byte

For a 256 connection you have to get 30Kb/s

But as other application also use the internet for updation, error reporting etc you get lower transfer rate

your download is only as fast as the person your downloading from. 256kbps is the speed you surf the internet at.

I have 5megs but only download at 300k.
