In school most of my friends listen to songs with lyrics which are full of energy and when they ask me for song recommendations all I can say is my songs dun suit you. So am I weird in prefering instrumental music to "normal songs"?

No. Lots Of people listen to jazz or new age music. Most are instrumentals. It's great on low volume if you're doing homework, because their are no lyrics going through your head to distract you. It also gets both sides of the brain working.
Teens feel very self-conscious about themselves. Some try to feel good about themselves by looking for ways to make fun of others. The kids who do that don't deserve to be your friends. No, you're not weird. Everybody is different in some way in this world, thank goodness.

I'd say not. You are probably more open-minded than they are, and that will serve you well. Your friends are your friends, but do not feel bound by any restrictions they may have. Listen to whatever music you like, if they are listening to the usual pop crap, then what you like most surely has more actual quality anyway.

So don't sweat it.
