We have a stackable washer and dryer. I was drying clothes today. I went to check to see if the load was dry. I opened the dryer door, they were not completely dry, so when I went to turn it back on, it did not work. I checked the washer and it works fine. I looked at the back of the unit and noticed that the vent hose has a large hole in it that was never noticed before. Could this have caused the dryer to overheat? If so, what can I do to fix this myself? Or, is there something else wrong? Please HELP!!

No the hose is an exhaust vent, it will not cause dryer to over heat. Now start at the beginning, check breaker, is dryer pluged in. If this checks out , it could be the door switch is bad or thermostate, next is the timer and start switch. If your not good at checking electrical componets or have a volt ohm meter to do so, call repair service. .

Hi. Nice picture. No the hole in the vent shouldn't be a problem. It would help if I had more info like is it electric or gas? Does the drum turn at all when engaged? The dryer has its own power cord so I would check that first, make sure its plugged in snugly. Next I would check the safety switch which is standard for all dryers. This is a mechanism on the door somewhere that cuts the power when opened. Mostimes its a plastic pin that pushes on a switch when closed. If the pin broke, or the switch, then nothing would work. Next thing I would check would be the limit switches which are inside the unit and not easily accessible. If its anything else like the timer or motor it's usually not cost effective to repair. In that case, get a new one. It'll cost about the same if not less. Good luck.

Did you check the circuit breaker in the breaker box for a tripped breaker?
Note some breakers look like they are ok (and still be tripped) and still be tripped best way to check them is turn them off then back on.

Did you get the door closed good? Did the plug come loose? Unplugged?
Did the belt break? i.e. is the dryer heating up but not turning?

A hole in the exhaust won't keep the dryer from coming on. It will cause the room to heat up and lint to get everywhere.

Do you propose Stacked or Stackable. Stacked is all one unit. they're more beneficial severe priced to service because all elements are more durable to get to. Stackable will be stacked or used part by technique of part. The stackable will be a the front load washer which holds a large number of clothing. once you purchase a stacked unit both washer and dryer could get replaced at the same time as in effortless words one isn't properly worth repairing. in case you do get a stacked unit i propose the single made by technique of Whirlpool. It has the same length motor, pump and transmission because the completed length Whirlpool. i recognize of what I communicate. equipment tech. 36 years

no. a hole in vent hose won't cause the dryer to overheat. maybe just the room.. the hole shouldn't prevent it from drying.
