My PC was messed up (it came with XP Home) so I erased the hard drive and my friend gave me a brand new DELL reinstallation disk for XP, although it says that the product key I must use is on the computer. Now I am using the PC, but I want to activate xp, and I tried the product key on the bottom of my laptop, but it still didnt work (but my new xp is PRO). Now I dont know what to do. However, the New XP Pro is legit, so I dont wanna buy another, if u think it isnt legit.

The key for each win xp installation disk is linked to only that disk. You need to call your pc manufacturer or Microsoft to get another disc.

If your friend gave you the disk after he used it 1,st, this would be the cause of your problem. Only 1 key code per user is allowed.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
