I don't think I've ever seen a movie that actually "scared" me.. in the sense that I was afraid to go to bed. It's always the same deal.. ghosts... little scary kids with haunting voices. The only original concept I've seen is from Nightmare on Elms Street. I liked the concept that if you go to sleep you will meet this scary thing that can kill you. STILL didn't scare me, though, because it wasn't done right.
But to answer your question.. there have been a few scenes in movies that startled me. Like in Gothika, that scene where Halle is in "solitary" and she goes down and you see that scary looking chick behind her. That was a pretty scary ghost-girl thing. Pretty ugly lookin'

I don't remember any of them actually scaring me. I remember when the first 'Nightmare on Elm Street' came out at the movies and everyone said it was SOOO scary, but I didn't.
When I was working at a movie theatre and 'The Grudge' came out, some of the employees and I stayed after closing to watch it and NO ONE would go up in the projection booth to turn the projector off afterwards, so I had to.
There was a horror TV series on cable in the late 80's or early 90's (I don't remember the name of it) that would have scary stories on it and there was one about a woman who was a security guard at a building about to be destroyed. There was something living in the building that lived in old abandoned places that would eat people: it was thin and had these LONG fingers and would move really fast and it killed a security guard and chased the woman back to her guard trailer and that episode scared the crap out of me. I wish I could remember the name of the series because I would definitely buy it.

I went to see the Exorcist in Hollywood when it first came out. I had read the book first (which scared the crap out of me) and there was so much build-up due to the stories of strange things happening during filming that I was really psyched up for it. The movie scared me to death. It was, and remains one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen.

The ring was scary. The begining was the scariest when they're talking about the video, she fakes like sometings wrong and then laughs and stuff starts to happen. And the part later when they're talking about what happened to the girl and I think her mom says "You didn't see her face" and then they suddenly flash it and it's hideous to an almost surreal degree. Part 2 was good but not scary. I hope part 3 is better.

American Haunting scared me to death, since it was a true story. The scenes that got to me were when the spirit was in the room with the girl (I can't remember her name) and would lock the door and pull down the covers. I don't know why this got to me, but it did.
