Charles Woodson - DB for Michigan won it in 1997. Although he also got in at WR towards the end of the year and made some big plays.
That was a stunner though, b/c Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf were the frontrunners all year.
Leon Hart - Notre Dame lineman who won the Heisman in 1949 played both offense and defensive line.
Larry Kelley - Played both Def End and WR when he won the award in 1936, playing for Yale.

The Heisman trophy is awarded to the best collegiate football player in a season.
That being said, it's a total farce. College football is the largest group of hypocrites in sports, and that is just one small example.
The award will only go to an offensive skill player. I really think one day they will have the decency to go ahead and put that in writing somewhere instead of continuing this cherade that it goes to the best player, and not the best offensive skill player.
Quarterbacks get the first nod, followed by running backs. In a rare instance, you may see a wide receiver jump in and snag one, but it's been a while. Larry Fitzgerald was completely cheated when he didn't win it, but he also had his class working against him too, being only a sophmore...
Being only a sophmore playing against him, of course, only adds to the hypocracy of the award. There is no standard for the position or class of the player to win it, but it's almost always a senior (or a junior who is almost certain to go pro) and, as stated above QB 1st, superback 2nd...
Matt Lienart did win the award as a junior and came back his senior year, and didn't win. He deservedly didn't win it, however, even if he did win it, there is such a stigma against awarding it to a player twice, he wouldn't have won it even if he had deserved it...again, another farce in the world of Heisman voting. I could go on and on about how stupid that award is set up, and it needs to set some boundaries and abide by them.

Yes they can. Although one has never one several have place in the top 5 in voting. Steve Emtman from Washington placed 4Th in 1991 and Rich Glover from Nebraska placed 3rd in 1972, just to name a few. The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the Best College Football Player in the Nation. Any position player is eligible for consideration.

He did not win because he's black he received it because of his on the field performances, if race were an situation he would have received it beforehand in 1967. regrettably, he nonetheless holds the most important margin for a Heisman trophy winner and he received in 1968, the day his daughter Arnell replaced into born. If memory serves me wisely the Heisman Trophy replaced into presented to the kin of Ron Goldman with the help of the courts. i trust Fred Goldman offered it.
