I was on the computer awhile ago, and decided I wanted to go on the laptop. I turned the laptop on and tried to get online, and it wouldn't load and I got the cannot be displayed page. So I looked on the toolbar and it said that a network cable had been unplugged. I checked every single wire and everything is where it is supposed to be.

My computer that the linksys box is plugged into, is fine. It works.

The laptop and my mothers computer do not work, though.

There is one cord on the back of the linksys box, if you just poke it gently, the box shuts off. Is it corrupted or something? The cord itself looks fine.

We called Comcast and they told us there isn't a thing they could do, which I don't fully believe, but thats all I could get out of them.

Is there anything we can do or does anyone know -what- the problem might be?

I'm currently on the laptop. I used the internet connection "Linksys" because it was free access. The "Home" signal that is usually there won't pop up.

The linksys does have an earthnet cable.

ive tried resetting it and still nothing.

i also checked under the network adapters and everything shows up. i ran the command on windows and got 0% loss.

still not sure whats wrong with it.

the laptops run off of a wireless card from the linksys. the router seems to be fine too.

the error "network cable unplug" doesnt necessarily mean that it's a loose cable connection although it's the no. 1 cause.

If you are using an ethernet connection and all cables are connected properly (try switching cable ends or use a different ethernet cable) ; check if ethernet NIC is enabled:

to check NIC for winxp:
right click on "my computer" icon on desktop then click properties. go to hardware then device manager and look for network adapters. Make sure there's an "ethernet adapter/NIC" listed regardless of the brand. If there's none, then that's the reason you're getting the error.

if cable and NIC are OK: ping your NIC:

go to RUN then type cmd (for XP) command (for other OS)
at the DOS prompt, type ping 127.0.0.1 - if you get a reply of 0% loss then NIC is good but if you got 100% loss, you make need to uninstall/reinstall NIC...

It's a very complicated error if it's not resolved with changing the cables.

Are you using a local area network, dsl or cable connection? Or a wireless internet card for laptops? Plus if you're already using your pre-existing service on another computer in order to get your service on your laptop you have to buy a router to connect the connection to another computer or laptop. Also you should make sure that your laptop has a dsl/hi-speed internet compatable card installed because without it you wont be able to get service on it at all unless you choose a wireless internet card which can be perchased from companies like t-moble, cingular, verizon and sprint.

I have a similiar setup, and mine will do that once in a great while. Either turn off all your power, either by unplugging the router, modem, and your computer, or if you have a power strip, turn it off for at least one minute, then turn on all power, reboot, then try it now. Wait!!! Try the reset button on back of your router first. Hold it in, with a pen, for 60 seconds, then release it, and reboot your computer..

try accessing the routers private address and make sure "auto obtain ip" is on, also power cycle your router and restart your machines. And check connections between router and modem..

reattach the cable or change the port. If all connections from the router doesnot work then it is router's problem, it not, examine each connection separately.
