I believe you were talking about the intercoastal muscles and your diaphragm movement. As for things like going through your nasal cavity, I shall skip.

During Inspiration/Inhalation:
Diaphragm muscles contracts
External intercoastal muscle contacts
Internal intercoastal muscle relax

During Expiration/Exhalation
Diaphragm muscles relax
External intercoastal muscle relax
Internal intercoastal muscle contracts

I Agree with PIPI B,
but he forgot to mention that while inhalation the volume increases and the pressure decreases.

and for exhalation the volume decreases and the pressure increases.

I agree with the above answer...however, they are INTERCOSTAL muscles, not intercoastal :-)
