Hi all! My name is Carrie and my husband and I are currently blessed with four children: Natasha, Samuel, and twins, Jessa and Elijah. We are joyfully expecting a fifth child this January! With this child, my husband and I have decided to wait to find out the gender until the baby is born, given that we already have a plethora of girl and boy clothes, so there is no need to buy more!

If the baby is a boy, we decided to name him Jonah Lee. Lee is my husband's middle name. If the baby is a girl, we want to name her Kara Maria. Maria is my middle name.

My problem is, do you think Carrie Maria and Kara Maria sound TOO much like? My oldest daughter Natasha made me realize this when we were talking about names one day and I was wondering if the two names were too close alike, would it be weird?

When we told my mother what we were going to name the baby if it was a girl, she said: "Why don't you just name her Carrie Maria? Might as well!"

What do you think? Thanks!

I think that Kara Maria is a very nice name, but it is too similar. Plus you may end up calling her Karrie since people tend to add "ie" to the end of certain names as nicknames (ex: Kate...Katie). Maybe you could name her after your mother or your husband's mother, or use your middle name as her first name. I love the names of your other children and I wish you luck in picking the next name!

I think it would be finev since it's your name. If you were going to name two of your daughters that it would probably seem to similar. But won't most of the people in your house be calling you mom? so then it will be mom and Kara. There are all kinds of Jrs out there and they don't seem to think it's too confusing and there name is exactly the same. My mom's name is Karen Renee and my grandmothers Carolyn Renee.. we haven't ever had a problem. Really I don't usually hear there names .. it's mom and ma. And in public how often will you be together and your names be called. The only thing I can even think of is maybe when you are around friends. But for the most part her friends probably won't ever call you just Carrie .. It's really up to you but thats my opnion! Congrats on number 5! Wow .. you must be a busy lady .. I have a hard time keeping up with my two!!

Kara and Carrie might get a little confusing but then again I know a lot of families where a child has the exact same name as one of their parents and people usually don't get too confused there. If you're really worried about it there are a ton of names you could chose from and I'm sure there's another one that would work out great. This is going to be your daughter's name forever though so make sure you like it :)

The two names may sound alike when spoken inproperly, but even then, do your kids call you by your first name? Would that cause the confusion? Or is it just about the similarity? You could also make your middle names the first and put the other one in second spot. I like Lee Jonah and Maria Kara, but not so much Mariah Carrey
;-)

The two names are very similar, and depending on the accent where you live the two may be hard to distinguish, especially when you are yelling out the door for the kids to come in. :-)
If I may offer a possible solution for you though. Name the baby Kara Maria, but call her by her middle name, Maria. This way you still get the legal name you want for your daughter, but you don't have to worry about people being confused about the similarities, and avoid rude comments from people that should keep their mouths shut.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I wish you a healthy happy baby!!

The names don't sound too much alike. The only reason that it would is when you say the middle names with them. But the name Kara is very pretty you should keep it if that's what you both like.

I love the names of your kids :) very cute

Carrie and Kara sound fine. I can see why you would think that they are too much alike. If you want to change your daughter's name it could be something like Caroline or Courtney.

I do think it odd to have the baby's name so close to yours. I think I'd be tempted to combine the two, maybe Kharma Leigh and maybe make Jonah's middle name Liam that way the baby girl gets bits of mommy's first and middle names and daddy's middle name; baby boy gets the name you liked, but adds the MA from mommy's middle name (Maria), with letters reversed- to daddy's middle name.

I like both names. I don't think it's too close since it's spelled different and I think that would be cool. I also like Kara Marie, it's a little different, but what's also different is your name and her middle name would end with an IE and her name and your middle name would both end in A so it would be mixed up. It flows better too IMO.
