Hello all, I am a college freshman and wanted to know if I had any chance of getting into NYU (New York University) as a transfer. I had a high school GPA of about 2.9, 1960 on the SATs (out of 2400, the new SATs) and I have about a 3.25 in college so far. It's been one of my dream schools since I can remember. Please be honest. Thank you!

Hola!

I go to NYU now as a grad student and went to undergrad here as well. Your grades are a bit below average for an undergraduate student who typically attends NYU. Most people I know graduated with a 3.8 to a 4.0 in highschool. Most transfers I know had a 4.0 when transferring. The GPA usually depends on which school you are transferring from. I have a friend who transfer ed here as an undergrad from Georgetown and she had a 3.8 when she did so.

It really just depends on many many factors. I see people posting these "will I get in" posts all the time. No one can really tell you if you'll get in or not. You'll never know unless you apply, so apply and see what happens.

Good luck!

A big part of the answer to this question depends on what you want to study and availablity of slots in those majors. As a transfer you are usually coming into a major and so the major will have some input on how many slots they have. Knowing how competetive the major you want to go into is, might be useful. Also, interviewing and/or meeting with the factuly in the depart ment may help. You don't say where you are in college at now. The reputation of that school will have some impact. Also contrary to what the previous poster said, the connections that you make in school can be important, especially for example if you are in NYU's Film program or another area that it has a world reputation in.

Did I answer this exact same question a few days ago? I remember the exact same question, maybe it wasn't you.

IMHO, the college grades are the key now. While a 3.25 indicates you're bright, and doing your work, it does not indicate that you belong in an elite college (supposedly NYU is such an elite place).

Then again, there are all sorts of variables, and you might indeed get in.

Here's a tip -- after you get your first job, or after you get into grad school, no one ever asks you about what college you went to (well, maybe as a social thing), nor do they ask you about your grades. A place like NYU will help you to get into grad school by virtue of reputation, and will allow you to meet people that might help you get a better first job, but beyond that, a college degree is a college degree

i imagine you've a very reliable shot. do not ignore that nyu has terrible economic help for transfers. your ECs seem extremely restricted, yet in the experience that they are concerning for your ability important then you extremely should be fantastic. it also extremely relies upon on once you're a soph or junior move. for soph move, your HS stats will nonetheless count number plenty
