Wow everything is different where to start where to start.

Dorm life.

I go to a small school (2000 kids) and still i live in a dorm with 50 girls. 2 or three per room. So all the sudden you go froma big room at home and are forced into a closet with someone you don't even know. Getting used to eachothers habbits and respecting one another is hard but you have to do it. people are never quite so you learn to sleep through everything. It's an ajustment.

The partys and the clubs

There are partys every single night at college. You can go to a club or bar any night you want. The trick is choosing what nights to go because your parents aren't there to tell you not to get plastered when you have an 8am class the next day. Also check to see if your school is a dry campus b/c mine is and i had to pay a fine for getting caught drinking on campus. Be careful b/c your are not always going to know all the guys and always elect a DD. Have self control and try not to go too crazy with the new found freedom.

The library/ studying

Get used to pulling all nighters studying for a big exam the next day. Most classes don't give you HW and only have Tests so the tests are very important. Some classes 2 tests will determine your grade so get ready to study and take good notes. In hs i didn't have to study...ever. In college I'm studying about 3 hours a night.

Class schedule

You only need i think 13 hrs. to be a full time student. this means 4-5 classes total. You can pick how often you have your class. For example you can have math for 3 hours once a week or an hour once a week. Your classes can start at 8am or 12pm. Just make sure to manage your time wisely inorder to get the work done.

your friends

You see them a lot more in college then in HS my one really good friend i see her most of the day. I have classes with her, she lives accross the hall from me and we go to every meal together. sometimes it's fun but sometimes i just feel like i need to get away. We even go into eachothers rooms without knocking.

pressure

Because you are working toward a major and a career every class is worth so much more then in HS you feel the pressure to suceede.

Extra activites!

Find something you enjoy doing and do it. Extra cirricular activities are a way to get more involved in the school and a good idea. Better than in HS.

It's all about a balance. You have your grades, friends and family just make sure to have fun whiole you are doing it or it's not worth it.

It's demanding. I've been going to college for 1 year and 1/2. The important things is to communicate with your instructor whether or not you are doing poorly. It will work to your benefit when you need letter of recommendation. I would also think about volunteer work depending on what program you are trying to get into because that might give you and advantage in being selected. What I enjoy the most about college is that you can challenge preexisting standards and ideas. You are not confined to a way of thinking it opens you up for thinking critically about a variety of subjects. So in a nutshell it can be hard work but, if you give it a chance you'll discover more things about yourself and the world that you might not have known before. :D Good luck in college!

I remember the first thing I noticed about college was the gym. It was no longer the girl's gym. It was Women's Gym. It was the same with the restrooms. While I lived at home the first two years, it was nice to be treated like an adult and a grown up. There was also a lot less silliness. There are some cliques like in high school, but there are so many more students, these groups not longer rule the universe.

I spent six years in University and I'm now in my fifth year of Medical School, that's a total of eleven years spent in post secondary education. I can tell you that from my experience, it's all totally different. High School is like life in a bubble, it's something that can't be replicated and you can't really get a sense of life outside it, until you've experienced it for yourself. So college life is different in so many ways, and on so many different levels that I can't really help you out, no one can. Every one will give you advice but none of it means anything. Just focus on what you're doing right now. High school is your life, and the better you do there, the better you'll do out here. Don't worry about University, everyone gets nervous and everyone is unsure of what they're doing, but it really just falls into place. You meet people in the classes you have and they give you different perspectives on things and sometimes those perspectives can change your goals and aspirations, sometimes they just make you want to get drunk! Life is fun after high school, you'll go to lost of parties, meet LOTS of girls, and drink LOTS of beer. Just remember to study every now and then too :) I hope this helps, it probably doesn't, but that's to be expected.

For most people, college is the first experience being away from home. So, rather than living with your parents, you live alone with roommates and/or floormates. This gives you a lot more freedom than you have in high school.

Also, you have more control in organizing your schedule. In high school class times are fixed and you go to school everyday (just about) and stay there from, say 8:00AM to 4:00PM. In college, you can schedule your classes further apart from each other or make it so that you don't have classes on certain days. Also, administration and professors don't care as much if you skip class, and you don't get penalized (other than possible falling in grade) if you do.

Well for one, if you went to a high school like mine, the teachers were on you all the time, telling you to get to class and do your work...holding your hand.

In College *smiles* they don't really give a crap what you're doing. They don't care if you come to class or stand in the halls all day. You're paying to go there...if you want to waste all your money talking to people that's your problem.

If you don't turn in your work...they don't really say anything to you. Teachers don't keep tabs on you. They won't remind you so much when work is due. You have to know and get it in on time. There are no bells of course. When class is over you get up and leave, someimtes while the teacher is still talking. Which means watching the clock and knowing where your classes are and how long it takes to get there.

It's kind of nice. You get to meet new kids and you learn to take care of yourself because NO ONE is going to help you, or your friends might but they might know as much or less than you do about everything.

If any of this scares you don't worry. It scared us all. But a Junior College or Tech College won't be like that...they're closer to their students.

one has more freedom and independence--no parents!!
you don't have to get a hall pass to go to the bathroom, you don't have to go to class if you don't feel like it(however, u will fail)
u can go to parties, stay up late...just get classes that start in the late morning or afternoons
