nothing for the most part......99% of flooded out homes still sit there.....areas of town still destroyed, rotting away, over grown now with brush and grass.

even the government has never finished re-doing all the levels and stuff.

most in america think its a huge waste of money and effort. the coast line there is disappearing faster than they can rebuild it or save it. in less than 50 years new orleans will be 6 miles out in the ocean by itself....so why save it?

most voiced ideas of just moving the city inland....its not like there is anything in the way...everything got flattened. but no one took up the idea and since no one started to rebuild....most people from there have just merged into other cities and have re-started their lives. most don't want to go back due to fear of water now.

it is sad that america....the country that finished the panama canal afer 2 other countries failed....and the country that built the hoover dam...at the time the largest and highest dam ever. plus we had the highest sky scrappers a few hand fold over.

yet a storm comes through and we are dumb founded....or should I say our president is. What a crack pot joke he is...not even worth the title of "man".

I believe that a great deal of the worst affected, ie poorest, areas have simply been abandoned and it's unlikely to be rebuilt as it once was.
Those who were forced to leave because of the flooding have relocated elsewhere and have new jobs and housing, so many of them won't consider moving back.
I for one would not be keen to live and work in an area so liable to flooding so I've no doubt that New Orleans will continue to exist in a new form but will never be the same again.

A lot has been done to get major businesses up and running. Only about 1/2 of the people who lived there before Katrina live there now. Much of the "poor" areas are neglected. Other homes are being rebuilt. It is going to be awhile befor it comes back fully. The slowness is due a lot to local government that wants to have deals and take care of their political friends.

Some neighborhoods are being rebuilt, but very few of the poor are being allowed to move back in. This is because they made the unfortunate mistake of reelecting their former Mayor, Ray Nagin, who is totally business minded and is forcing the poor out of their own neighborhoods.

Rent, food, and utilities costs have been driven up so that the poor cannot afford to move back in. He wants to rebuild NO to be a tourist mecca that includes major casinos, corporate buildings, etc. This is very unfortunate that he has ousted his own people who elected him twice.

It took over a hundred years to build the city and you think it should be rebuilt in how long. First and foremost they need to take care of the levees so it wont happen again. I loved living there even with all its problems but they need to raise the city, so it is not so far down below the sea level. What good will it do if we put all our fonds into one city with out taking care of the problems first.

An entire American city was lost on the watch of Chimpy McFlightsuit. Talk about a national disgrace. Worst. President. Ever.

not much has been done.
a sticky-plaster has been placed over the whole disaster.
some of the emergency services and rescue organisations ripped of funds given 4 the rebuilding.
last i heard some politicians wanted 2 abandon the area and concentrate on other more popular destinations.

There have been massive rebuilding projects and charity volunteer work done but some of the city is still uninhabitable and the inhabitants are now living in other cities in the U.S.

Oprah Winfrey donated $10M and I'm sure there are other private individuals doing the same, don't expect anything from the US gov.
