I'm not a professional or anything, but I have really oily skin, so I like using powder foundation. I usually choose a color that's 1 shade lighter than my complexion and-this is So important-before applying I make sure I put some makeup on the pad and softly blow or shake off any excess. Then I always apply under my eyes first, because if you can get rid of any darkness under your eyes first, then the rest of your face is easier to even out. The ultimate test for me is if I apply the foundation under artificial light, I also go and look in a mirror in natural light(daylight) as well because artificial light can be decieving and you may go outside looking like a Marionette doll...lol...anyways, that's the best description I can give you-I hope I helped!

I've always been pleased with Cover Girl make up as a back up to my more expensive brand when I run out. Choose a shade close to the skin color of the back of your hand. If you have oily skin, they have a liquid foundation for that too. Start with a light, non-oily moisturizer, then dot on the liquid make up. Small pea-sized dots, 3 on forehead, 3 on each side of face, 1 on nose, 1 on chin. Lightly blend it all together, covering your entire face, under the eyes and under your jaw a little. Then once you have it blended, use a translucent powder on top. You can use a pressed powder compact or loose translucent powder with a big powder brush. Either way, use it lightly and evenly. Then use light powder blush to finish up.
Other alternative:
I know the Bare Minerals stuff is expensive and if you are a teen, you might not can go that route, but it is excellent make-up and perfect for a teenager's face, which tends to lean towards oiliness and breakouts. My daughter uses it and her make-up always looks perfectly even. The make-up supply they send lasts a long time too.

To choose a foundation for your face, always get liquid because it will not cake and it lasts longer. when you are picking it out pick one that matches your skin tone anthan put the bottle to your hand and the one that matches your hand is the right one for you. Now to apply it I use my hands you can use the sponges but it lasts longer when i use my hands. Just put a little on your finger tips and rub it in all over your face, you will have to keep applying more foundation from your fingertips to your hands and applying it to your face. The reason why you don't put a whole bunch on all at once is because you will have spots if you put too much on at once. And when you are all done be sure to blend all of it in, or else your face will be all blotchy, but it's easy you'll get the hang of it. good luck!

When you are shopping, try and hold the foundation close to your hand so you can see how the color compares. You can also go to the make-up counter at the mall and get a free make-over. Then ask them what color they used on you. Another tip is to mix the foundation with face lotion. Use the mix as the foundation when applying make-up.

Then I had to do a touch overview worksheets for historic previous AND memorize each of the presidents so as. Argh, i'm satisfied it truly is over with because I even don't have any homework as we communicate :)

here's a shortened version on everything i wanna type cause i'm sleepy.
If ur skin is oily use a power, dry use a liquid, or combination use either.
powder: i love bare minerals, but just make sure it's good and the right color. use concealer to cover and discolorations or blemishes, then take a big poofy brush and put powder over ur whole face to even everything out (plus it helps the concealor stay on longer)
liquid: again, use concealer, then put liquid on with a DAMP SPONGE WEDGE. It makes it go on super smooth. cover with a light layer of loose powder applied with a big brush.

It depends what kind of skin you have. If you have acne prone/oily skin you would need oil-free foundation. Though oil-free is also good for every type. If you dont have acne skin you shold get a matte foundation. Some foundation comes with a sponge or you can use a brush some you just blend with your hand.

First, you want to make sure you have the right shade for your skin tone. My suggestion to make it less cakey is to mix a littl bit of your foundation with a little moisterizer and blend it together.
