It's so easy. You just fold the diaper into 3rds length wise and then lay inside the diaper cover... close the diaper cover... ta da!! :o) There are some great sites that might help you out.

Gerber makes more than one kind of diaper. It's really hard to answer this question without knowing the type of diaper it is. But I'll try...
#1) If the diaper is shaped like a disposable and has velcro on it- you lay your baby on it, as you would a disposable with the velcro tabs on the top, pull up the other half between baby's legs and attach velcro to center.
#2) If the diaper is a rectangle that has some thickness sewn in the middle, or if it is a large square- fold it into a rectangle, put it into a velcro closing cover and follow the instructions in #1.

Gerber diapers are really poor quality. Some are made with polyester sewn in- not absorbant at all. Unless you are lucky to have a baby boutique near you that sells quality cloth diapers, you're best bet is to find good diapers online. KatiesKisses.com or NaturalBabies.com are two great retailers. There are so many types of cloth diapers available that it will make your head spin. But the cheapest way to go is prefolds (these would be the rectangles). You will be able to find nice, thick diaper service quality (dsq) cotton prefold diapers from an online cloth diaper retailer. Even if you use prefolds, pins and plastic pants are not even necessary anymore with all the options these days.

If you find that you are unable to afford the start up cost (cloth diapers are so much more affordable than disposable, but what you need to spend up front to get started can sometimes be too much for struggling families), there is a nonprofit organization called Miracle Diapers that helps. If you don't qualify for there program, they have a lot of resources on their links page for places to purchase low cost cloth diapers.

There is another nonprofit organization call The Real Diaper Association that provides support and education to cloth diapering families. You should contact them directly to see if they have any support groups in your area, as there are some all over the US that meet regularly. Also, another great source of support would be to join a cloth diapering message board. DiaperSwappers is a good one.

Good luck!

It's been quite a while.

The diaper must be folded into a triangle, bottom point between the legs. The opposite side goes around the child's waist. Fold over the bottom point to make it wider in the front. The other two points, coming around the waist are pinned to the folded-over bottom point.

Place left hand inside the diaper, using right hand to guide the pin point through the cloth. Left hand pushes the pin point back out. Recommend pushing the pin toward yourself rather than away.
Left hand checks to ensure that pin has engaged both layers of the diaper rather than just the outer layer.

Just like a disposable. The end with the tabs go at the back and fold over tummy onto the top of diaper. Just like a disposable. Even with the velcro ones though, I had to use the diaper pins (they have a safety on them). Don't forget the rubber pants. Also, I used the liners, they are flushable and bio degradable... perfect for a poop you don't want to scrap off. One hint, if you do bleach them now and them, after you bleach, wash them 2'ce in the washer with just plain water. They are thick and the bleach goes right to the middle and when the baby pees, the bleach leaks up and gives them a terrilbe rash.... hope this helps):

Lay them in a rectangle. I always used 2 at a time. you want to take the sides and fold them in, more at the bottom than the top. Then fold them up, pin each side and put rubber pants on over them.
