One of my favorites is Nocturne by Adam Rapp (or pretty much just anything he's written). It's actually a play, but it's written as a long monologue. It's pretty short... I read it in under an hour and I was distracted at the time. Another good one is The Copper Elephant... the grammar's pretty bad and it's a slow read, but it's good once you understand what's being said.

I'm also in love with V.C. Andrews. Flowers in the Attic is one of her best, as well as My Sweet Audrina.

Wicked by Gregory Maguire is also great. It takes a while to read, but it's well worth it in the end. It's basically a back story for the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

My all-time favorite, though, has to be The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. It's the story of how Bilbo Baggins came to own the ring of power, as well as the story of how he got his supposed wealth. Very interesting, and a much easier read than the three-volume Lord of the Rings series.

Wow !
this so depends on what you like, what genre, what subject .... cannot understand why would you ask somebody else without giving some specifics. Just read anything, it couldn't hurt as long as you keep an open and critical mind, 'cause sure thing there are millions of stupid books outhere. Butr what's stupid for me might be good to others and viceversa :-).
It would be just too boring if everybody would like the same books or would think the same.

There's a new medieval fantasy series in hardcover that you might like. The title of the first episode is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you're a fan of Conan, LOTR or Wheel books, this is one you'll enjoy. A Hollywood producer said it was, "Like Braveheart meets Lord of the Rings." (See other comments & reviews below.)

Publishers Weekly said in a rare STARRED Review:

"A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages."

Library Journal said:
