Are you kidding? Look what is happening in other countries that have had dictators as leaders. Would you really want to live like this? Be thankful we live in a democracy and have rights. It might not always go smoothly and things might not always go as planned or as we would like but at least we are FREE to make choices and decisions. I'm proud to live in a democracy and wouldn't want it to be any other way. One supreme ruler of the human race? Now that would be bad. Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it and then wonder how we could get back what we had. Good Luck.

I lived in Singapore in the 80's, and for all practical purposes, it was a benevolent dictatorship. They had elections but the People's Action Party controlled every single seat in the Parliament. When they finally lost ONE seat (ONE!!!!), the Prime Minister gave a speech railing against "democratic excesses", and the official paper mocked the lone opposition candidate constantly (even though he seemed like a decent enough fellow). The thing was....Singapore was great. They had great public transportation. Great public housing. Great schools. High per capita income. Granted, what works on a tiny island may not work for the entire world, but, hey, it might be worth a try....

It'd be just great if God would allow the human race back into the Garden of Eden.
Ain't gonna happen. And neither will anybody ever "create a being who has no personal ambition and whose only reason for living is for the effecient existence and safety of the human race."
"The Twilight Zone" is entertainment.

A benevolent dictator, just as communism are good in theory. Unfortunately when the most important factor is added into the equation, human nature, both fail miserably.

What do I think ? I think the words ' controlled ' and ' dictator ' do not belong in the description of a benevolent person of guidance. And if we 'create a being ' especially one of no 'personal ambition' than that person would not be of strong character to be a valued person to look to for guidance. Now a person of strength and compassionate for the well being of the human race . . . person (s) as that are already in place. Just not 'heard' yet.

You are right, that is why we had kings for most of our history, but the succession and choosing a king becomes problematic, so we picked democracy, and it will work if we take the power away from corporations and the super wealthy, they should be monitered like a rabid animal......and maybe we would be closer to the voice of the people......

There is no such thing as a benevolent dictator.
