Half the time, it is out of the need for speed, so to speak.
The other half is actual just not knowing how to spell.
Errors like "Your funny!" instead of You're funny!" or "There mom is so mean", instead of "Their mom is so mean" kill me.

All of the above are true. I think that as the 'electronic' communication age took over and people got lazy. Short cut the spelling to type less, shoot off quick emails, and think that everyone will know what they are talking about. Everyone once in a while types a short word wrong that spell check will find correct that really wasn't right for that spot in the sentence. That is no big deal. I have gotten to the point where I do not answer questions I cannot read or understand because of spelling or grammatical structure.
Basic consideration for the reader (knowing your audience) has gone away. I notice it with my children who are 15 and 13. The schools are just now teaching them how to write a sentence and identify the parts of a sentence. This should have been elementary education material.

Hey, it's alright, everybody has their bad days. I usually take it out on people here whenever I'm going through one. But, yeah, the human race is generally retarded. How hard is it to click on "Check Spelling" on the top right corner of the type box? The worst are the ones with horrible grammar. You tell them that it doesn't make any sense and then they go off on you, saying that it makes perfect sense, and calling YOU stupid. Who's stupid enough NOT to get hooked on phonics?! That's like people who are so ugly, they won't even masturbate.

G'day zsapphireblue2003,
Thank you for your question.
The spelling on some questions can have problems. However, some people who use this site aren't native English speakers. Unfortunately, schools don't seem to place the same priority on teaching spelling and grammar as they used to.
Seasons greetings and I hope you don't have too many more bad days.

I just asked the same question. It is important that the spelling be better on the Internet. Where else are kids going to learn how to spell? Not from the school my kid goes to.

Text messaging--where you sometimes pay by the letter--is largely responsible for the trend toward abbreviated spelling.
But not ALL of it is attributable to that.
Many people on here--teens, mostly--don't CARE about spelling.
While it is terribly annoying, these kids will someday have to fill out job applications. Too bad that the only careers they can have with horrific communication skills are flipping burgers!

What about yourself? Don't YOU realize? You have written 'alot' (no such word) and have missed the apostrophe in "don't". Also, do you really mean "context" or "content"?
Nevertheless, having said all that, I agree in principle with what you say.

Some people just do not take the time to correct themselves. People have become real lazy within the last few years.

you had a bad day so you ask people why they shorten their words up abit...?okay. well...i wouldnt be so concerned about people's spelling when YOU dont even make your beginning sentances capitaled, you, too made a spelling error on "don't", so don't be so harsh overanalyzing the poor innocent people who just want an answer, just as you do.
