I dropped a hot plate right on top of my big toe about a year ago. The pain was the worst I've ever felt. A blood blister formed and the nail eventually came off. Well, a new nail has since grown back. Suddenly, though, my toe has begun being really sore again. I had to be careful of my shoes. Then the pain went away and I figured that I banged it on something to begin with. Now the pain is back and my toe is swollen and red around the nail. I'm going to the doctor soon, but I wanted someone's opinion on why it keeps hurting. Can someone tell me what might be wrong?

its very likely you have an ingrown toe nail. These happen most often to the greater toe and there is a simple procedure the doctor can do to remedy the situation. because of the injury you sustained a year ago its very likely that your toe nail grew in wrong. also be sure to cut your nails straight across and wear loose fitting shoes. any more questions just ask me.

It sounds like you might have an ingrown toenail that is the result of the first infury, In plain terms, the nail is growing inwards. You could have a fungal infection under the nail in which case you may need to take lamisil etc. the growth pattern of the nail was changed due to the injury.

It does sound like an ingrown toenail. this being the case try cutting a V in the center of this toe nail. If it is ingrown this will relieve some of the pressure.

Sounds like an ingrown toenail. Try soaking your foot in some warm water with Epsom Salt, read the directions on how much to add because I forget. It helps a lot.

Besides problems with your toenail, it sounds like gout! Gout is a common incurable problem like arthritis that can only be remedied with anti inflammatory drugs like steroids, Ibuprofen, and other natural substances at the current time.
