I'm just curious; because I know a guy who's almost 21, and he still doesn't even have his permit. Should he get his license, or have to depend on other people for rides the rest of his life?

In New York City (and other huge east-coast cities) it is not at all unusual. AS hard as it is to imagine, one can live quite well in NYC, Boston, Toronto, etc etc without a car.

I am 51 and I never got my license, i can drive but I wanted to be an individual with something and I did not want to be a conformist so i decided early in life that I would never get my license.

Taxis are safer and cheaper than owing and maitaining a car too LOL.

Yeah, i know of a few. If he bums rides off other people, then yeah, he should get his license and a car. If he usually takes public transit, I really don't see a problem with it other than for identification purposes.

my girlfriend can't drive and I dont think she CAN learn LOL...i tried to teach her a year ago and it was horrible. She's 21, and grew up in LA lol. The only other person that i know that is of age but doesn't know how to drive is my grandma, and i think she is in or near her 70's. Let's just say, they both never go a day without a BUS PASS.

Yes, I actually have a cousin who is 23, and doesn't drive.
He's mentally retarded though, so it's not his fault.

In answer to your other question...yeah, I really think he should get his liscense. What if the person, or people, that usually drive him places were out of town? He wouldn't be able to go anywhere. And I honestly thinks it's lazy that he hasn't gotten it already. (no offense)

I know older folks in New York City who have never learned to drive. But that's it.
