If you ride in the Hunters, in your opinion what is the best horse to use. I think thoroughbreds are best because they have a naturally elegant look to them that always catches a judges eye, plus they are light on their feet, which gives them that floaty pace judges love. Most TB's have great form over fences too. Give reasons for whichever breed you say is best.

I have always liked throughbreds as well, however my favorite would be a throughbred/quarter horse cross. You get the beauty and refinement of the throughbred, as well as the temperment and beauty of the quarter horse. Also many registered quarter horses are elegant looking and moving, hunters in their own right.

The best breed in my opinion would be the Quarter Horse, but the taller ones. But basically any breed that is built for the job and more than 15 hands would be exellent!! I started out on a 20 y/o QH hunter/jumper mare and have moved down to green broke 4 year old mares!!the green broke mares are Haflingers and they are fun to ride and are exellent and smart jumpers but not good for show jumpers because they aren't tall enough.
I looked up some great breeds that are perfect for starters all the way to int.nat.show hunting/jumping:
Oldenburg-exellent!
Morgans
haflingers are good as long as they are tall enough for you
Hanoverians are exellent for the job!
Trakehners are very great!!
these are just a few but make sure that the horse you choos is big and tall enough to get you over the fences safely..

I would have to say the Quarter horse would be best because the learn quickly and they are great at the speed you need to get from fence to fence and everywhere in between! Quarter horses has the most comfortable canter and trot ever!!

Hope this helps! All this is from my own experiences as a 2-1/2 years student of a professional instructor!!!

people say thoroughbreds
they look really like a hunter
so i guess they'd be the best show hunter
i ride dressage
a got a mare that can jump and i jump her
one time she jumped over 3 feet on me going over a 2 foot fence
i likes to jump, she's very good at dressage
alot of people think she's a thoroughberd but she's a Quather horse
so other horses could be good hunter not just a berd

Been involved in hunter / jumper for years, best breeds are warmbloods or warm blood cross. If you google the national team for your country you should get an idea of the top breeds for the sport.

I had a Morab mare that was a fabulous hunter; VERY smart, strong bone, elegant, great endurance, wonderful ground manners, and willing. She loved to jump, and won a lot. I was able to give my son lessons on her when he was 3, and she was so careful with him.
I will look for another Morab when I'm ready to get another horse.

I also agree with you about the TBs. But I also think Warmbloods are excellent to. They have a nice gait about them.

I personally think thoroughbreds but warmbloods are second to that.
